Summary #
I figured the best place to start this off is how I made this blog in the event that others wanted to express themselves or put together a quick and easy site to share ideas or creativity.
Since I am not terribly certain how interested people would be in this topic, I’m going to keep it relatively limited unless someone reaches out, please do if you run into any issues or would like more help, and I’ll update this post accordingly.
So the general idea is:
- Use Hugo as the main technology to build a static-site.
- Use Blowfish as the primary theme since it is well documented and has a lot of options that should satisfy most use cases.
- Then using the above, you would generate a static-site, which simply is a website that doesn’t use a database or complex back end functionality. Hugo will compile and output your website into a single folder that you can upload to a number of places that support static-sites, usually for free. So you can have something up and running at no cost to yourself. Please look into the limitations of various providers though, as some will have object limits, or file size restrictions, etc.
- The Blowfish documentation has a section on it, personally I opted for CloudFlare Pages and I did not use any integrations to GitHub, but rather just upload it manually for now.
To get started, I’d refer folks to this video which I found helpful and uses both Hugo and the Blowfish theme, showing how to work around some basic configuration.
Then I’d suggest quickly spinning up something yourself and messing around as the best learning method. Hugo’s ability to have a demo server run and you being able to see live changes as they are made makes it really easy to pick up quickly. All that’s left is to deep dive into the Blowfish documentation which is quite extensive and very helpful.
Best of luck!
